About UK GDPR
The UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) is a data protection law that came into effect after the United Kingdom left the European Union. It provides individuals with rights regarding how their personal data is collected, used, and protected by organisations.
Britannia Glazing Systems is committed to complying with UK GDPR and ensuring that your personal data is processed lawfully, fairly, and transparently.
Data Controller
For the purposes of UK GDPR, Britannia Glazing Systems is the data controller for personal information collected through this website and in connection with our services. This means we determine the purposes and means of processing your personal data.
Your Rights Under UK GDPR
UK GDPR provides you with the following rights in relation to your personal data:
Right to Be Informed
You have the right to be told how your personal data is being used. This is why we provide this information and our Privacy Policy.
Right of Access
You have the right to request a copy of the personal data we hold about you. This is commonly known as a Subject Access Request (SAR). We will respond to your request within one month.
Right to Rectification
If you believe the personal data we hold about you is inaccurate or incomplete, you have the right to request that we correct or complete it.
Right to Erasure
Also known as the 'right to be forgotten', you can request that we delete your personal data in certain circumstances, such as when:
- The data is no longer necessary for the purpose it was collected
- You withdraw consent where consent was the basis for processing
- You object to processing and there are no overriding legitimate grounds
- The data has been unlawfully processed
Right to Restrict Processing
You can request that we limit how we use your personal data. This right applies in certain circumstances, such as when you contest the accuracy of the data or object to our processing of it.
Right to Data Portability
Where we process your data based on consent or for the performance of a contract, and processing is carried out by automated means, you have the right to receive your personal data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format.
Right to Object
You have the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests or for direct marketing purposes. If you object, we must stop processing unless we can demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds.
Rights Related to Automated Decision-Making
You have the right not to be subject to decisions based solely on automated processing, including profiling, that significantly affect you. We do not currently use automated decision-making processes.
How to Exercise Your Rights
To exercise any of your rights under UK GDPR, please contact us using the details below. We may need to verify your identity before processing your request.
We will respond to your request within one month. In complex cases or where we receive a high volume of requests, we may extend this period by a further two months, in which case we will inform you.
Lawful Basis for Processing
We only process your personal data when we have a lawful basis to do so. The lawful bases we rely on are:
- Consent: You have given clear consent for us to process your personal data for a specific purpose
- Contract: Processing is necessary for a contract we have with you, or because you have asked us to take specific steps before entering into a contract
- Legal obligation: Processing is necessary for us to comply with the law
- Legitimate interests: Processing is necessary for our legitimate interests or the legitimate interests of a third party, unless there is a good reason to protect your personal data which overrides those interests
Data Protection Principles
We adhere to the data protection principles set out in UK GDPR. Personal data must be:
- Processed lawfully, fairly, and transparently
- Collected for specified, explicit, and legitimate purposes
- Adequate, relevant, and limited to what is necessary
- Accurate and kept up to date
- Kept for no longer than necessary
- Processed securely
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's supervisory authority for data protection issues.
